Well, Fall is just around the corner, and it couldn’t have come quick enough for me. This was the hottest summer I ever remember in the South. The leaves are ever so slightly changing, and everything is artificially flavored with pumpkin chemical taste.

I love Halloween, it’s my favorite holiday and time of year.  I love the colors, the smell of the crisp air and being able to wear sweaters to cover up my beach body that never happened. It also means it’s time to decorate! Whether you love your décor to be scary and gory, or tasteful and subdued harvest, it gives your home a new feel and changes things up. The holidays are the time to be a little over the top and honestly a little tacky.

People always ask what the best way is to decorate for the holidays without spending a ton of money or time. I always think Autumn is the best time to bring the outdoors in. I like to cut branches with fall-colored leaves from my trees and place them in my existing vases. I also collect new glass pumpkins every year and like to display them in all my rooms.   I’ve always lived in old creepy houses, so usually I can only stand the spooky stuff for the week of Halloween before I want to rip it all down. If you’re into the more macabre décor you can use the branches and spray paint them black.  I also pull out my grandmother’s silver collection. I’m not sure why I inherited it. I only pull out for Halloween (Thanks Grandma Minnie). I use battery operated candles with her candelabras and cover with fake cobwebs. I also cluster her silver bowls with plastic eyeballs and oddities from the dollar stores to make great displays around my home.

Be creative. Use what you have or what you can cut out of your neighbor’s yard when they aren’t home. You also don’t have to find room to store your fall foliage; once the season is over or it dies, you can toss it out. Make sure you plan it all out and make an unrealistic mood board to obsess about. Once you come to the realization that you’re never going to do any of it and get consumed with a binge-worthy Netflix series, a simple wreath on the door and a few pumpkins on the porch is plenty to make your neighbors and friends think you care.

If that still is too overwhelming, a full-size candy bar for the trick-or-treaters will definitely make up for the lack of décor.  And please- no Aldis brand non sense, nobody wants a Snackers bar or a Twax bar.  Have fun and do whatever you are capable of without putting anymore stress on yourself. Have a great Fall and a Happy Halloween!
